We are SO excited for the upcoming DROPLITZ Album Release Party coming up in about two weeks! If you haven’t heard of Droplitz before, you are in for a serious treat. The man behind the psychedelic magic is John Plehinger, an artist, producer, and twenty-year resident of Colorado. John has been an artist his whole life, and when he started making music in 2010, his two passions began to coincide. His artwork began speaking to him musically, a thus began his very fluid journey of creating art and music that go consciously hand in hand. This album release party is going to be something else, so feel free to take a moment and learn about the man who’s making it all happen…

Tell us about your musical background and influences.

I have been into music my entire life, my dad has always had a drum kit, I can remember as early as 7 and 8 years old sitting down at his drum set and him teaching me how to play to hair band rock. I was in band from 6-11th grade, mostly percussion, marching band, and jazz band. I dabbled with trumpet and trombone. My first time making electronic music occurred at the age of 13, my dad just got a dell desktop, so my older friend gave me a version of Acid Pro 4. With this program I was writing musical creations like that of movie scores. Even my dad was blown away. The next year that computer got a bug and fried, so I didn’t have electronic music again until my second year of college. I got a new computer and my friend gave me Ableton live 8, this was back in 2010. It was like a drug, I was hooked, I stayed up late hours, I forgot to eat, electronic music consumed me… July 1 2015 I got hit by a car when I was riding my motorcycle home from work. That crippled me for months, I had to start selling my art and music at that point. That crazy life changing event made me start to follow my dreams, made me start to use my art degree. Getting hit by that car changed everything. As of 2016 I have played 12 shows and I have 5 bookings lined up after my release party, two of which are headline shows.

“I began to see music in a visual sense, I began to hear my paintings. This, I later found out, is called synesthesia, a multi-sensory experience that some people have.”

Could you tell us some more about your art and how it relates to your music?

I have been an artist as long as I could hold a pencil. I was always the weird artistic kid throughout grade school. The one drawing during recess, during class, and pep rallies. It all began to make sense in college. I started out doing Art Education in college and quickly realized I needed to pursue art more directly. So I moved up to Denver in 2010, and started painting when I started making electronic music. It became a very fluid thing to go from working on my painting in school, to working late night on my music. I began to see music in a visual sense, I began to hear my paintings. This, I later found out, is called synesthesia, a multi-sensory experience that some people have. Some people have it so bad it is like a disease. I started live painting 5 months after I got hit by a car in July of 2015, been doing live painting at shows and festivals since then. Also, started making my living off of murals , I have completed 12 to date. Ultimately making music and art became fluid, so that is why my moniker is Droplitz. I will have work displayed and for sale at the show.

Would you mind sharing some information or inspiration for the Album?

The inspiration behind the album is the psychedelic nature that is life. I want people to gain a sense of spirituality by listening to “Fluid Focus”. The inspiration is experiential and is made up of three components: music, meditation and oil paintings, creating a pool of auditory and visual influences. Examining the transparency, synesthesia, and liminality between sight and sound, mind and body, in addition to consciousness and perception. Using meditation as a vehicle, the content of my work is driven by the sacred and universal interpretation of music. Guided by spiritual and esoteric themes I explore relationships of art and music and how they activate metaphysical aspects of our being.

What else should we expect and look forward to for your show?

SEEN is starting off the night with with his dub style mixes, PATRICK SKYLER is bringing the energy up with his original glitch hop music, then MISS JAEDHA is bringing her original soulful downtempo (I am very excited to have a female on the bill). MORPHEUS offers squishy bass music to rage to, then before me is ANTANDRA, who offers tribal bass music. They’re all featured on the bill, and all are very different yet very bassy, soulful, and original.

Also could not be more excited for the party support from Vj/ laser show by MINDBEAM PRODUCTIONS. Smoke and lasers make every party better! Also Zac Binary will be providing unique visuals during my Droplitz set.
