Is the Is Are is the upcoming album from Brooklyn indie-rockers DIIV. The purported new album should be released sometime this fall as announced via their Tumblr page back in April. But hey, that tentative date is coming from a band who hasn’t released an album in three years. After their debut album Oshin (read “ocean”), DIIV toured non-stop and encountered a few road blocks along the way. The band has a penchant for bending the rules and disregarding them altogether. And if the album titles are any indication, these guys don’t really care. Zachary Cole Smith, a self proclaimed Cobain-esque figure, leads the group in its tumble towards stardom. Perched somewhere between shoegaze and indie rock, DIIV takes sun-soaked reverb to the next level. “Dopamine”, the first single released off the upcoming album, gives us a preview of what to expect. And it’s more of the faded vocals, shoegaze, and hazy guitar riffs we have come to love and expect from them. Zachary Cole Smith is on record as saying “I feel like I owe the world a good record.” “Dopamine” is an indication that DIIV is poised to do just that. They are currently embarking upon a fall tour. Be sure to catch them live next Friday in Englewood, CO at the Gothic Theatre.
