With our Red Bull Sound Select showcase coming up on Friday 2/17, we are anticipating the “comeback” of The Cool Kids. The last album from them was, When Fish Ride Bicycles in 2011. To get in the spirit of the show, we came up with a list of some items, shows, music, etc that we’d love to see make a comeback this year. One can always dream, right? Lisa Frank We recently read an article that a Lisa Frank live-action/animated hybrid film is potentially in the works! You can’t help but feel joyful when you see colorful, psychedelic merchandise such as stationery, backpacks, puzzles, and coloring books. We hope a movie comes out and inspires a launch of new of imaginative designs! Disney Channel Original Movies The 90’s/early 2000’s Disney Channel Original Movies were the highlight of our weekends growing up. From Can of Worms, Smart House, Susie Q, Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century, to Brink, we get all nostalgia. Disney Channel still produces their so called Original Movies, but it’s apparent the older movies were the bomb.com and we’d love if these types of movies can make appearances again. Old School Vh1 and MTV Rushing home after middle school to catch TRL (Total Request Live) was an every day thing. Carson Daley was so dreamy to watch when giving us the countdown of the top 10 most popular music videos across the country. And let’s not forget about Vh1s Behind The Music, where artists would discuss the hardships they undertook as they pursued their careers and the path to their success. It’s kind of sad how social media today has eliminated these types of shows. Does anyone even listen to American Top 40 on the radio anymore?? March to bring back TRL? Classic Nickelodeon Shows Doug, All That, Kenan and Kel, Clarissa Explains It All, Ren and Stimpy, Rocko’s Modern Life, Angry Beavers, Are You Afraid of the Dark, KaBlam!, Rocket Power, the list goes on! Netflix, can you please add some of our childhood shows?! Nothing sounds better than coming home after a long day, having a drink, and laughing to some good sh*t. Childhood Snacks Sure these snacks were unhealthy, filled with modified chemicals and tons of sugar. What about creating some healthier versions of these delicious drinks and foods we used to snack on while watching Nickelodeon Shows? Things we miss: Squeeze It, Surge, 3D Doritos, Dunkaroos, Ninja Turtles Ice Cream, and Gushers. Music From the 90’s The 90’s was the best decade for the music industry. From sexy R&B songs (Aaliyah, “Are You That Somebody”) to cheesy Pop songs (Ricky Martin, “Livin La Vida Loca”), the 90’s songs are so darn memorable. And all the alternative bands that we fell in love with from classic movies during the era such as Weezer, 311, and New Radicals. Of course, we cannot forget about those strong female bands like TLC, Spice Girls, and Destiny’s Child. Here’s a few others we really miss: Alanis Morissette, Fiona Apple, Toni Braxton, Garbage, S Club 7, and Boyz II Men. How wild is it that todays younger generation has never even heard of the Backstreet Boys, New Kids On The Block, or N’SYNC? Music today will never be like how it was back then. Remember how Destiny’s Child always had matching ensembles? Fun fact: Beyonce’s mother and late Uncle handmade their costumes. We would love to see a Destiny’s Child reunion! 90’s Toys After watching Home Alone 2, Talkboy/Talkgirl was definitely on the Christmas list. Other 90’s toy favorites: Tamagotchis, Bop It, Skip It, Beanie Babies, and Easy-Bake Ovens! Do toys today even compare to what we grew up with? Highly unlikely since everyone has games they can play on their smartphones and young children today are provide with this kind of technology. These toy comebacks may have to wait until we have our own children where we can pull out the goods and show them how play time is really done. We hope this brought back some fond memories of your childhood and you join us on 2/17 at The Summit Music Hall where The Cool Kids perform along with River Tiber and The Reminders! If you RSVP, you’ll be able to enter for a small fee of $5!!
