Stepping away from the norm of “drop” based electronic music, Proper Motion delivers a welcome surprise with their latest EP, Shake The Ground. While the Denver-based electro-soul duo has always taken a more subtle approach to their musical composition, this latest creation ties together and refines the progressive yet nostalgic sound that has been in the works for years.

The title track, “Shake The Ground“, released last week and featuring Kevin Donohue of SunSquabi has been called a “cross between Carlos Santana and Benny Benassi with a twist of Gramatik” by The Untz. The other two songs on this mini-album are even more emblematic of Proper Motion’s musical advancement. “Dark Before The Dawn“, which features another member of Sunsquabi – Andrew Clymer on Bass, is a more ambient, rhythmic anthem cased with dream-like synths. The final track, “When Night Falls” features the intoxicating vocal stylings of Madeline Hawthorne and acoustic mandolin to give it a worldly feel that is a rare contribution to the electro-soul genre.
