When James Brown famously sang “play that funky music white boy” Brian J answered the call, and hasn’t looked back since. Brian J, the brainchild behind Pimps of Joytime, spent formidable years in New York, New Orleans, and Los Angeles honing his songwriting technique before assembling the group now known as Pimps of Joytime in 2005. A band whose name carries a certain “je ne sais quois” is now more closely synonymous with funk & soul as the band continues to establish themselves as leaders of the genre by maintaining a rigorous tour schedule, hitting the 100 shows per year mark consistently since 2012.

Hailing from Brooklyn, New York the Pimps of Joytime have a groove filled, funk fueled live presence that will make any listener feel like they’re going from zero to sixty in an instant. Under hobbies the band lists “making people sweat” and that’s no exaggeration, but why not find that out for yourself this weekend?. Thats right, Pimps of Joytime are playing not one, but two nights this weekend at the Bluebird (10/24 & 10/25) with support from Moon Hooch and Fox Street.

Grab your ticket for Pimps of Joytime or spend the rest of your life (or until they return) living with regret, and make sure you scroll down and check out opening acts Moon Hooch and Fox Street.
