The Guestlist‘s new album, Racing, Chasing will be out September 1st; in anticipation they’ve released the second single off the album “Stone”. “Stone” has been described by the band as a collaborative happy accident. After some cuts from the final track list left the album shorter than desired the band and Mark chose to develop a brand new song right in the studio. Out of this spontaneity, The Guestlist claims “Stone” as one of their favorite tracks from the record. The track is beautiful example of the band’s lyrical abilities and steady tempo’d progression. A dreamy song perfectly accented by the brass section the band is known for. A compliment to the album’s first single “Lonely” which puts forth more hard hitting vocals. The album was recorded with friends Mark Anderson of Paper Bird and Charlie Kern of Inner Oceans at their yet-to-be-named studio–previously Mammoth Cave. Mark had this to say about the sessions: “The Guestlist is a band’s band. Great players and great dudes, who have a palpable love for playing music together. Knowing that, I wanted to do as much of the record live on the floor as possible, to capture that energy. I also knew I wanted a lot of the production to happen in the moment to give the record some spontaneity, so we avoided the typical production meetings that would occur prior to recording. The Guestlist were incredibly gracious with my creative input, and the songs “Lonely” and “Stone,” exhibit their openness and flexibility strongly. Both those songs changed significantly in the studio, but the band was able to perform those changes with ease. It’s truly a pleasure to work with such pro’s who are so eager to create.” The album will be released digitally September 1st, and on CD and Vinyl September 2nd at a record release show at Denver’s Hi-Dive with friends Eye and the Arrow.
